Apple publishes an “up to” credit for every model it takes. Here is that list next to what a mail-in buyer and a local shop pay for the same device, so you can see where the gap is before you hand it to Apple.
Apple’s number is a ceiling for a flawless, unlocked device. The mail-in column is the highest published offer from the buyers on this site; the local column is our estimate for the same model in top condition, before a buyer sees it. Tap a model to see every mail-in offer.
mail-in pays more the best mail-in offer beats Apple · local sale pays more the local cash estimate beats Apple and mail-in · Apple pays more Apple beats both · a dash means no buyer on this site prices that model yet.

You describe the device online or in a store, Apple quotes a value, and the credit comes off a new purchase or arrives as an Apple gift card. Online trade-ins ship to Apple’s partner for inspection; if the device does not match what you described, the value is revised down and you can accept or have it returned. There is no cash option.
It is the easiest option, not the best-paid one. Apple’s “up to” value assumes a flawless device and is issued as credit toward a new Apple product or an Apple gift card, not cash. On this page 61 of the 70 models we price are worth more sold for cash to a mail-in buyer or a local shop.
You answer questions about the model, whether it turns on, the screen, the body and whether Find My is off. Apple’s partner inspects the device when it arrives, and the final value can be revised down if the condition does not match. The quoted number is a ceiling.
No. The value is applied to a purchase or issued as an Apple gift card. If you want cash, sell to a mail-in buyer (paid by PayPal, check or direct deposit after inspection) or to a local buyer who pays on the spot.
Yes. Apple lists trade-in values for recent Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel models, shown in the last table. They tend to be well under what a mail-in buyer pays for the same phone.
Apple adjusts them around new product launches and in between. We pull the published list on every build; the values on this page are from October 28, 2026.
